Section 3.2 - Exponential & Logistic  Modeling

Picture

Essential Question(s):

How does the concept of growth and decay change within the various exponential and logistical models?

Follow these three steps to complete this "flip" lesson.
STEP 1: Preparation
Title your spiral with the heading above and copy the essential question(s).
STEP 2: Vocabulary & Examples
Copy and define the following of vocabulary. This can be any tables, properties, theorems, terms, phrases or postulates listed. Review the following examples and copy what is necessary for you. Use the guiding questions for your cornell notes.
Constant Percentage Rate and Exponential Functions
  • What is the exponential population model and how are growth/decay expressed? (pg 290)
  • How do you determine if a population model is a growth or decay? (Ex 1 pg 290)
  • How can you derive a population model? (Ex 2 pg 291)
Exponential Growth and Decay Models
  • How are exponential growth and decay models used? (pg 291)
  • How can you model bacteria growth? (Ex 3 pg 291)
  • What is radioactive decay and half-life? (pg 291)
  • How can you model radioactive decay and use atmospheric pressure? (Ex 4 & 5 pg 292-293)
Using Regression to Model Population
  • How can you model the U.S. population using exponential regression? (Ex 6 pg 294)
  • What is maximum sustainable population? (pg 294)
  • How can you model populations using Logistic Regression? (Ex 7 pg 294)
Other Logistic Models
  • How could you model a rumor? (Ex 8 pg 295)

STEP 3: Reading
Read the following page(s) and take any extra notes as needed.
  • Read pages 290 - 295.
  • Make sure to read the paragraphs between the examples.
